Brass Jewelry Class in Sanur, Bali

Work in warm golden brass instead of silver, at the same bench and with the same tools. One to two hours, one finished piece to take home, and the friendliest price we run. The class families book when everyone wants to make something.

IDR 500K

PER PERSON, BRASS INCLUDED

What you make

A warmer metal, the same bench

Brass moves under the hammer much like silver and takes a deep gold shine once polished, so none of the craft is watered down. What changes is the budget. At IDR 500K you can put a whole family on the bench, or make a second piece you had not planned on. It is also the metal to choose for something chunky, because a wide brass band costs a fraction of the same shape in silver.

Included in the price

Everything but the idea

Add-ons: gold plating IDR 250K per item, gemstone IDR 200K per stone. If you would rather work in sterling silver, the single class is IDR 600K and the couple class IDR 1.200K.

Sanur, not Kuta

What a brass class in Sanur actually feels like

We run the same class at our Kuta studio, but the two rooms fill up with different people. This is the Sanur version.

Families and groups of friends

Brass is the class parents book when everyone wants a bench. Four people making four pieces costs less here than two silver seats, and children from five upwards are welcome with an adult beside them.

Unhurried, and quiet

Sanur is the calm end of south Bali and the studio matches it. Small groups, no queue for the torch, and enough time to hammer a texture twice if the first attempt is not right.

A short walk from the beach

We are minutes from the Sanur beachwalk and the harbour, roughly twenty-five from the airport. Morning and afternoon sittings both work, and most guests walk or cycle over from their hotel.

How the session runs

From flat sheet to finished piece in one sitting

01

Mark the brass

We talk through what you want, measure your finger or your chain, then mark the shape straight onto the brass sheet or wire.

02

Cut, forge, solder

Brass is forgiving under the hammer, so you can be bolder with the shaping than you would dare in silver. Cut, forge, then close the join with the torch.

03

Polish or patina

Finish bright gold, or let us darken it so the patina settles into the texture you hammered. We will show you both on a sample before you decide.

Choosing

Brass or silver, and who each one suits

Sterling silver is the softer, whiter metal and the one most guests picture when they book a jewelry class in Bali. It takes fine detail, holds a mirror polish and will not change colour on you, which is why the single and couple silver classes are still the ones most couples choose.

Brass is harder, warmer and far cheaper by the gram. It darkens slowly with wear, which some people dislike and others want on purpose, and a minute with a cloth brings it straight back. Because the metal costs so little, brass is the sensible answer when there are four of you, when a child wants a second go, or when the design you have in mind is wide and heavy.

Nothing else differs. The same Balinese silversmiths, the same torches, the same one to two hours at the bench in Sanur. If you are still undecided when you sit down, we will put a brass sample and a silver sample in your hand and you can choose then.
