A gentle, closely supervised first taste of silversmithing for children aged five to eleven. Child-sized tools, short steps, and a finished piece they can wear out of the door the same day.

Something small they can wear the same day
We keep it short and hands-on. Anything involving the torch is done by our smith while your child watches from a safe distance, and every other step is theirs: choosing the shape, hammering the letters, filing the edges and polishing it at the end.

Why Sanur works for a class with children
More children sit down at our Sanur benches than at the Kuta studio, and the room is set up for it.
Ages five to eleven
Five-year-olds manage stamping and polishing with help. By nine or ten most children can file and shape a ring themselves. Over eleven, book the single class instead so they get the full process, torch included.
Supervised the whole time
The torch and the pickle stay with the smith. Children work with blunt files, letter punches and a light hammer at a bench set to their height, with an adult of ours beside them throughout.
A short walk from the hotel
Jl. Pasar in Sanur, ten minutes on foot from the beachwalk. It all happens indoors at the bench, so a rainy afternoon is the day to do it, and it finishes before anyone gets tired.
One to two hours, at a pace that suits a child
Pick a shape
We put out a small tray of simple designs and let them pick the one they like best.
Stamp and shape
They hammer the letters and patterns themselves, with a hand over theirs whenever a strike needs steadying.
Polish and wear it
A quick turn on the polisher, into the box, and out of the door wearing it.
Questions parents usually ask first
Can a parent join in? Yes, and most do. Book a kids class for the child and a single class for yourself and we will put you on neighbouring benches. Or sit beside them with a cold drink and take the photographs, which costs nothing.
How long will they actually last? Most children stay absorbed for around an hour, and the class is built to finish inside that. If interest runs out early we shorten the polishing and the piece still comes out complete.
Is it safe? The soldering torch and the pickle are handled only by our smith. Everything the child touches is a blunt file, a letter punch or a light hammer, at a bench we have set to their height.
What do they come away with? A small .925 sterling silver pendant, ring or charm with their name or initials stamped into it, boxed, and the fact that they made it themselves. The kids class is IDR 550K per child, silver included.
